I Am A Transgender Woman Captain Within The U.S. Navy

My name is Jennifer Sims, I am a United States Army captain and a transgender woman who has served my country with distinction for more than six years.
It was June 30, 2016, and Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, had just announced an end to the United States military’s ban on transgender service.
I am speaking for myself here, not on behalf of the Army or the government, but I suspect my feelings resonate with those of other transgender service members.
