Invoice Collings, Maker Of Sought-After Guitars, Dies At 68

“The sound is full of energy, just like Bill Collings is.”After building about 50 more guitars, Mr. Collings was heading to California when he stopped in Austin.
His company, Collings Guitars, said the cause of death was bile duct cancer.
Mr. Collings is survived by his wife, the former Ann Shaughness; his daughter, Sara Thomas; and his sisters, Martha Howell and Laura Putnam.
In the late 1980s, Mr. Collings produced two dozen custom guitars for George Gruhn, a vintage collector and retailer in Nashville, under the Gruhn logo.
A new Collings guitar ranges in price from about $3,300 to about $13,500.
