In an Instagram video posted by Sports Illustrated’s MMA writer, Mike Dyce , yesterday, White says that the Mayweather-McGregor bout registered a whopping 6.5 million PPV buys.
Although White spouted the 6.5 million PPV buys number with utmost confidence, the Los Angeles Times wasn’t ready to call it official just yet.
“Although Mayweather won as expected — via a 10th-round TKO Saturday night in Las Vegas — there was plenty of intrigue entering the super fight that led to its massive consumption on pay-per-view.
To put that number into perspective, the Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight in 2015 had a then-record of 4.6 million buys, meaning that Mayweather’s unique clash with McGregor crushed that by nearly two million.
Particularly, fight fans had never seen an MMA fighter like McGregor challenge a boxer like Mayweather.
