Ex – Vice President Joe Biden, in an interview airing on Wednesday’s Morning Edition, says he does not have any plans to run for president in 2020, but that it would be “foolish” to rule it out entirely.
Biden also responded to a new e book by Donna Brazile, the past mind of the Democratic National Committee. She wrote that after Hillary Clinton suffered a fainting spell on the marketing campaign trail, Brazile considered changing her as the nominee in favor of Biden.
The former vice president and 35-year Senate veteran tells NPR’s Michel Martin that the party “never discussed replacing her.”
“Had they, I’d have managed to get clear that I’d not be any component of this,” Biden says.
In Hacks: The Inside Tale of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White Property, Brazile writes that the Clinton campaign gained significant control over the DNC’s finances as soon as 2015. Brazile, speaking previously NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday, said she thought the takeover of the party was unethical but didn’t result in a rigging of the principal against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
In Wednesday’s interview, Biden pushed back on the notion that the Clinton campaign’s relationship with the party was unusual, echoing a letter from almost 100 former Clinton campaign staffers.
“What I’ve noticed is normally that whatever the prospect is controls the DNC,” he says. “So, I didn’t find anything unusual in the putative nominee becoming the person who was simply the dominant power in the DNC.”
On other topics:
Does he wonder Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election?
“I don’t wonder. I know they does,” Biden tells NPR. “They were at a minimum attempting to invoke some good sense of chaos in the election. And I think it’s pretty apparent they hoped their efforts would elect Donald Trump.”
On the Trump administration rolling back Obama’s legacy:
“It’s distasteful,” this individual says, adding that this individual predicted the Republicans will be unable to get rid of Obamacare. “They are able to damage it, however, not repeal it.”
On different issues, such as for example gay rights, “They are going to get it harder; they are going to slow it up,” but “The American persons have already crossed the Rubicon on the vast majority of these things.”
On President Trump’s response to white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Va.:
“Silence is normally complicity. Not merely was it not condemned, you’d the president making a relative comparison” between the white supremacists and the persons trying to avoid them. “That is sick. That is dangerous.”
Will he operate for president?
“The answer is simply no. I have no programs on operating in 2020,” Biden says, but then adds: “What persons want me to state is that for no reason will I function. That would be a foolish thing to say.”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen 2 yrs from today,” Biden tells NPR. “But, I’ve done little or nothing organizationally or structurally or in any other way to get ready to run for president. That is not in the cards today.”
