“I would say to Kathy, a couple of things. No. 1: You mischaracterize what I said. I didn’t claim that white persons couldn’t talk about competition. Quite the contrary. We think that competition is an authentic discussion to have,” Reed said. “It’s one we’re having tonight because it’s one which a lot of you are discussing at home. And it’s one which has plainly entered the Atlanta mayor’s race.”
Reed then finished her address with a old classic web page out of Michelle Obama’s “when they go low, we go high” speech.
“So I won’t mischaracterize your check out either, Kathy Rae,” she continued. “I obtain it. On Dec. 5, 2017, you imagine it’s OK to phone this journalist a n***r. I don’t. But I could clap back and say a few things to you. But instead, I’ll let your terms, Kathy Rae, speak for themselves. And which will be the last word.”
