“Everyone who appears formidable … started out putting on their pants the same way you do in the morning.”
The biggest lesson he previously to learn when he arrived? Everyone, even the biggest titles in tech, are normal people when they get started as business owners, he says, speaking to ReCode executive editor Kara Swisher on her behalf podcast, Recode Decode.
“The day-to-day psychological roller coaster ride is intense. But the thing you need to realize, if you are hearing this and you happen to be outside of Silicon Valley and everything looks hard and unapproachable, is that it is very gradual. And everyone begins with very, extremely humble beginnings.
“A single of the main things for me, coming into Silicon Valley, was appointment some of these folks that I thought had been titans of the world and thinking to myself, ‘You know, you are not that great,’ and realizing that I possibly could do it too,” says Gross.
“You need to understand that everything is very gradual and everyone who appears formidable … started out putting on their pants the same way you do in the morning.”
