White Home press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday U.S. athletes look forward to competing in the 2018 Games, updating her remarks after she at first told reporters “no established decision” had been made about taking part in the video games in South Korea.
“Revise: The U.S. appears forward to taking part in the Winter Olympics in South Korea. The protection of People in america is our top priority and we happen to be involved with the South Koreans and additional partner nations to secure the venues,” Sanders wrote on Twitter.

About half an hour earlier, Sanders said simply no decision had been produced as to if the U.S. would allow its athletes to take part in the 2018 Olympics, collection to get hosted in Pyeongchang, South Korea, approximately 50 miles from the demilitarized area that separates the Korean peninsula.
Sanders was asked about the 2018 games found in light of U.S. Ambassador to the US Nikki Haley’s remark Wednesday that it had been an “open question” as to if the U.S. would take part in the Games.
“Look, that wasn’t precisely what the ambassador explained. No established decision has been produced on that,” Sanders explained. “And we’ll maintain you guys posted as those decisions are created. Look, I know that the target is to do hence, but which will be a decision produced nearer to time.”
The 2018 Olympics will open next February with tensions on the Korean peninsula at their highest point in years, with the North Korean regime of Kim Jong Un conducting ballistic missile tests, including one that it claims can strike the complete continental U.S. North Korea likewise conducted its sixth nuclear test previous September, detonating a machine several times more powerful than its previous five.
Unlike his White House predecessors, President Donald Trump has opted to match the Kim regime’s bombastic rhetoric with strong vocabulary of his own, threatening to destroy North Korea with “fire and fury like the world hasn’t seen.”
Asked Wednesday about U.S. participation within an Olympic Games hence near to North Korea, Haley informed Fox Media that “there’s an open up question. I have not heard anything about that, but I know in the talks that we include – whether it’s Jerusalem or North Korea – it’s about, just how do we protect the U.S. citizens in the region?”

The U.S. is usually regularly one of the top performing countries at the Olympics, generally near the the surface of the total medal count. The U.S. previous skipped an Olympics video games in 1980, boycotting the summertime Olympics hosted in Moscow over the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan.
Next year’s Pyeongchang video games will already be without another important competitor following the International Olympic Committee barred Russia from competing, punishment for a systematic, state-sponsored doping program carried out at the 2014 Wintertime Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
